During a routine colonoscopy, doctors were shocked to discover a live ladybug inside a man’s intestine.

The case was reported in 2019 in the ACG Case Reports Journal, and included photos of the insect, which was surprisingly still alive and lodged in the man’s intestine.

Although the doctors couldn’t determine exactly how the ladybug got into the man’s body, they believe it was likely swallowed by accident.

To survive the digestive process, the ladybug likely avoided stomach acid thanks to the preparation solution the patient took prior to the procedure.

If you’re feeling grossed out, keep in mind that a ladybug is probably one of the least disgusting insects that could be found inside the human body.

Gastrointestinal specialist Dr. Keith Siau revealed that he and his colleagues have previously found ants, bees, and even cockroaches inside patients.
